Europe Day 2026 marked in Tuzi: students of the Medresa “Mehmed Fatih” perform “Bridges, Not Walls”
A cultural programme marking Europe Day 2026 was held today in the amphitheatre of the Medresa “Mehmed Fatih” in Tuzi, as part of the activities that the Ministry of European Affairs traditionally holds across Montenegro, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro and with the support of the EU4ME project.
This year’s Europe Day celebration was organised in partnership with the municipalities of Andrijevica, Cetinje, Gusinje, Herceg Novi, Kotor, Plav and Tuzi, with European values presented through cultural and artistic programmes prepared by students and their schools.
The programme in Tuzi was attended by representatives of the local authorities, the Government of Montenegro, the diplomatic corps, educational institutions, the media, teachers and students.
The guests were addressed by the Mayor of Tuzi, Lindon Gjelaj; Rahman Kačar, who read the address of the director of the Medresa “Mehmed Fatih”, Amer Šukurica, on his behalf; the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević; the Minister of Public Administration, Maraš Dukaj; the Minister of Public Works, Majda Adžović; and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Montenegro, Peter Felten.
Before the Mayor’s address, a short video by the Municipality of Tuzi presented the local community’s message for Europe Day.
The central part of the programme was prepared by the male and female students of the Medresa “Mehmed Fatih”, who presented recitations in Albanian and Bosnian and then performed the play “Bridges, Not Walls”.
Through their recitations and stage performance, the students sent a message of peace, dialogue, respect for diversity and a shared future. The symbolism of bridges — as places of encounter, trust and connection between people — was the programme’s central message.
Towards the end of the programme, the EU4ME project coordinator, Anđelika Durutović, presented gifts to the students who took part, further highlighting the support for young people and their creative contribution to Europe Day.
Marking Europe Day in the amphitheatre of the Medresa “Mehmed Fatih” especially underlined the role of young people in promoting European values. Through word, movement, art and public performance, the students showed that the values of togetherness, cooperation and mutual respect are passed on most beautifully through education, culture and creativity.
Europe Day in Tuzi ended with the message that a European future is built through concrete deeds: through schools, institutions, culture, trust and responsibility towards the community.
