Medresa “Mehmed Fatih” hosts the “Mala medresa” Summer School

The Medresa “Mehmed Fatih” hosted the participants of the “Mala medresa” (“Little Medresa”) Summer School, a project organised jointly by the Islamic Community of Bosniaks of North America and the Medresa “Osman ef. Redžović” from Visoko, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The “Mala medresa” Summer School was launched in 2013 so that young people from the United States could come to know the culture, history, mother tongue and natural beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region, and deepen their knowledge of their faith, tradition and own identity.

During the visit to the Medresa “Mehmed Fatih”, the guests were addressed by the director, Amer Šukurica, and the teacher hfz. Bajram Dizdarević, who welcomed them and spoke of the importance of such encounters for preserving the religious, cultural and linguistic identity of young generations in the diaspora.

The guests toured the medresa and learned about its work, its educational and formative mission, and the students’ daily life. During their stay in Montenegro they also visited the Islamic Centre in Bar and the Sailors’ Mosque in Ulcinj, enriching their visit with an introduction to the religious, cultural and historical heritage of the Muslims of this region.

The participants were accompanied by hfz. Zijad Dervić, hfz. dr. Haris Delić, prof. Amel Hasandić, prof. Mirza Selimović, prof. Selmedin Smajić, prof. Selvedina Rezaković, prof. Amelina Kadrić, prof. Alma Murtić, prof. Merhana Dedić, prof. Tesnima Bosnić, and mr. Amela Numanagić, assistant director.
